I wanted to learn macro, I was fascinated by seeing small things in such detail; things you take for granted every day have so much interesting detail if you look through the lens! I did that for a few years and decided to try my hand at people, teamed up with my partner who is a professional re-toucher and TwistedPix was born.
What particular challenges do you face with erotic photography as opposed to other genres?
Ignorance is the main issue, people can still be very narrow minded despite the fact we apparently live in a modern society. We have been met with some distaste occasionally! As a lot of our work is very dark and well.... twisted, people often don't understand it.
Do you prefer to shoot with film or digital?
As much as I used to love shooting on film, I really enjoy the freedom that digital offers, so at the risk of hearing the collective gasp, I'll say digital.
How did you become interested in fetish/BDSM?
I've always been a very alternative person, with a darker nature, so I love to explore different things; it was a natural progression I suppose, I don't find it strange. I find that I feel very at home shooting bondage, fetish and the like, it's my comfort zone and the place I return to when all the 'nice' gets a bit much!
Do you enjoy fetishism/BDSM play in your personal life, and if so what are you into?
Yes, I am a huge fan of play piercing, blood play, Shibari, Latex, Corsetry...the list goes on. I'd say blood play is my favorite, yet the thing I get to do the least often.
Do you think pinup and fetish are becoming part of the mainstream culture?
Incredibly so, yes. I think it has reached the stage now where it's practically the normal, everyday scene. It saddens me that the community aspect of it is dying out now in some ways because of the recent flood of fetish as fashion. While in some ways it's great that you can pop to the shops in latex, it's taken some of the allure out of it.
What kind of music do you like?
I have incredibly diverse taste in music, it's easier to say what I don't like! I hate jungle, drum & bass, that kind of thing. Everything else, there will at least be some that I like. Rock and Hip Hop being my two main loves.
What do you like to do for fun?
Apart from trying to stab people with sharp things whenever I can (or they're not looking), I'm a chronic baker! Cooking is a passion of mine, I don't see it as a chore to be done but thoroughly enjoy preparing great meals and cakes! I think it's also fair to say that I find my job fun a lot of the time. I think if it ever stopped being fun I'd probably just quit and go back to an office job. If you're going to do a job you hate, you may as well do it and get weekends off lol!
